    Calabria is a region rich in gastronomic and wine-making traditions, thanks to the various people that have lived in this southern Italian territory.

    Many gastronomic traditions and rituals for the preparation of typical dishes and the preservation of these products are linked to the religion and culture of the poeple of Calabria. Calabrian gastronomy offers a great variety of typical products such as the famous ‘Nduja di Spilinga, the red onion from Tropea, the Pecorino del Poro, the extra virgin olive oil, the liquorice from Rossano, the ice cream from Pizzo, the wine from Cirò and the various Calabrian citrus and herb liqueurs, a wide variety of spices including the famous Calabrian hot pepper, tasty sun-dried tomatoes and various species of plants and animals, etc.; fruit of this sunny and fertile strip of land; the result of ancient traditions, passed down from father to son; all this combined with enviable meteorological and geographical conditions. Typical Calabrian dishes are: vrasciole (meatballs), aubergine parmesan, pittanchiusa (baked cake, stuffed with raisins and dried fruits), peppers and potatoes and bread with sardella (samll fish seasoned with pepper), as well as all kinds of recipes based on fish and products offered by the sea.
